Some thoughts on Shaq

The news of the Diesel’s retirement is not shocking, yet still managed to steal the thunder of both the Stanley Cup and the NBA Finals. The Big Daddy gave 19 seasons to the league, his time is up, it’s part of life.
The original hardwood Superman leaves behind a legacy filled with off-court baggage and elite on-court production. In fact, Shaq is the only athlete I can think of that backed up his off-court shenanigans with MVP’s and Championships. What other athlete fucked around as much as Shaq-Fu while delivering an all-time great career?
All that being said, it really makes me wonder about what Shaq could of been. Shaq is arguably the best center of all time. They key word is “arguably”, his face is certainly on the Mount Rushmore of centers. But, he shares that space with Kareem, Wilt, and Russell. Imagine if Shaq spent his off-seasons really working on developing his game to larger heights. Shaq could of been the best Center of all-time, period. If he took basketball as seriously as some of his team-mates did he’d even be in the discussion for top 5 players in NBA history.
Shaquille had all the tools to be the undeniable best. Though at the end of the day, he chose to share the Throne instead of owning it.
Always Fly
For Nets fans, this was the best weekend ever. Back to back victories, one coming in triple over time. The Deron Williams era has officially started.
Props to emilynd for the template
Denver looked real good tonight (against an 8 player Celtics team that was missing 1 starter and 3 bench players). That team is deep as shit though. Wonder if the Knicks are going to miss all those role players they gave up for Anthony…
